Performance & Tuning
Whether you just need your to improve your cars driveability or you seek a boost in performance from mild to wild, we can help. Our customers constantly tell us that we make a big differences in the power, acceleration, driveability, fuel efficiency, handling, braking and all manner of performance issues.
Road Cars: All British road cars benefit from tuning and we provide what we call "complete tuning". A complete tuning starts with a compression test and a look at the crankcase oil. This lets us know the state of the motor.
Next, we check and carefully reset the tappet or cam clearances as required, to manufacturer specification. Moving on, we examine the distributor for wear and replace the contact breakers, condensor, rotor and distributor cap and ignition coil using the best quality replacement parts as required. We replace the ignition wires with high quality Lumenition, Taylor or Accel wires for optimum spark delivery and we install new spark plugs of the appropriate specification. We stock most required ignition parts for Lucas systems including Lumenition and Pertronix electronic ignition upgrade kits. Finally, we set the ignition timing accurately for the best power and performance.
Moving on, we we check the carburetor settings, mixture and balance, idle and choke and we renew air filters using only top-quality replacements and we offer both K&N and Pipercross Performance Filter upgrades.
Mild Road Upgrades: Road Car performance improvements will benefit any British Car and can be achieved within a budget while delivering a satisfying upswing in driving pleasure. In general and for the sake of simplicity we'll use an MGB as an example. In this case, a typical mild upgrade would include:

- cylinder head - check for cracking, valve job & milling the cylinder head to achieve slightly higher compression
- installation of a "Fast Road" camshaft complete with new chain and gears
- installation of the early MGB twin downpipe header if required (as on rubber bumper Bs) or tubular steel headers
- refurbished S.U. twin carburetors
- upgraded air filters (Pipercross recommended)
- refurbished Lucas distributor (if required)
- replace ignition components and install electronic ignition along with high performance wires
- bring this all together with a final tuning
